'Dessin'

Design originated from the french word 'dessin' which simply means 'to draw'. There are three elements associated with design - point, line and shape. Philippa sent our class out to experiment with all three elements and come back with a photo example of each...

Point: (points being inside the chain links)

Shapes: (Squares)

Lines:

Philippa then asked what element we found the easiest to find, most of us answered 'lines'. She asks us why? We say it's because lines are all around us! She then points out that this may be true because we are in a residential area with buildings etc, however if we were at the beach, we may find shapes easier to locate. I would like to look into this a little further...

Lesson 1

My tutor Chris sent our class out for our first "play". He was very specific about what he wanted us to photograph -

portrait:

Architecture:

Parallel Lines:

A line with a circle:

His intentions were to get us out, exploring our surroundings and really thinking outside of the square. I am not entirely sure I achieved exactly what he asked of me, but I had fun trying!

I now pronounce you Husband and Wife...

On Saturday 9th March 2013 I had the privilege of photographing the beautiful wedding of Shane and Mell's down at Pukekura Park. This was my fourth wedding and as usual, I was naturally very nervous on the morning of their special day. My tutor tells us that this is a good thing, that it wouldn't be right not to feel nervous, so I embrace these feelings and use them as fuel to fire me..
The day was full of so much fun, laughter and love... it was perfect and I couldn't be happier for the lovely couple.

Shane and Mell, I wish you many years of happiness, health and harmony, thank you for entrusting me to be your photographer.
